Some Of The Guns

WLTS Logo5Some of the, We Love To Shoot Guns.

We love to shoot guns and here are a few of our favorites. From Browning X-Blots to 1943 Mosin Nagant, they are all a blast to shoot. There are also a number of pellet guns that are used for  short range target practice and indoor use. (got to have something to do in the winter when we get tired of reloading.)

At the time of writing here, it is mid winter and that seems like it is the time of the year when I have the time to concentrate of content. As I look out the window and see a drip of water coming off the icicles from the roof I know that target season is soon to be upon us and  all the rifles will be out exercising very soon.  🙂

Savage 10 BA

The Savage 10 BA in 308The .308 Cartridge

The Savage 10 BA is hefty, weighing in at a bare bones 13.4 lbs  but, add a scope,  in this case,BSN6500_654305T Bushnell Elite Tactical 4.5-30 X 50, (a recent upgrade from the Scorpion Copperhead Varmint 4-16 x 44), bi-pod and a full mag , now your looking at  17+ lbs. Not for the weak armed hunter. For that matter not for the hunter. We are talking a “Bench rest / Prone” target shooter. See it fired here.

10 BA ActionChambered in 308 WIN with an AccuTrigger, an over-sized bolt handle which does require a wee bit of a trick to remove. An adjustable  pistol grip to fit a small hand or large. Th 10 round mag is very nice , just don’t lose it, replacement cost or just to buy a spare tip in at over $100.00, that for some pressed metal and a spring, Sheesh!

Now  throw in the 24 inch fluted heavy barrel, in a 1 in 10″ twist. Overall length 45.5 inches. It comes stock with the muzzle break, which I’m sure my fellow shooters will leave the bench on either side of me empty. you are  supplied with side rails to attach your favorite attachments lasers, light etc.

10 BA Fluted Barrel with muzzle break

(the reality is that due to the weight, I’m thinking its really just a show piece at that point. I may try a camera just for kicks and see how that works at the range.)

10 BA AccuStock

The stock is called an “AccuStock” and features  adjustable Length and cheek height. As you explore the  rifle you discover an assortment of areas which look like it has been designed with tapped holes for additional attachments through out. There are sling attach points and many other points of interest.

This is considered a “1000 Yard gun” and I plan to check out that claim at some point in the future, for starters though the range only has a 300 yard at this point. I will be looking forward to  a road trip in the future to find a long range. Hmm and  to that though I will more than likely have to up grade the scope 🙂

Browning 223 X Bolt

The Browning X-Bolt Varmint Special SSA .223The .223 Cartridge

The .223 X-Bolt weighs in at 8.6 lbs, is 43.75 inches long, has a 1 in 10″ twist. It is a dream to fire, the thumb-hole stock fits like a glove and talk about a beautiful rifle just look at the colours. The scope is a Bushnell Banner 6-18 x 50 AO, not a real expensive one but, bang for the buck I have to say it does a mighty fine job.

Savage 22 WMG

The Savage 93 FV  .22The .22 WMR Cartridge

The 22 WMR (Win Mag) weighs in at 6 lbs, is 39.75 inches long and has a 1 in 16″ twist. The 10 round mag is a must. The heavy 21″ barrel allows you to shoot all afternoon without it heating up and is  very consistent. Half inch groupings at 100 yards are common. On this gun there is the Scorpion Optics Copperhead Varmint 4-16 x 44 AO.  An excellent scope right out to 300+ yards.

Mosin Nagant 91/30

The Mosin Nagant 91/30The 7.62 x 54 Cartridge

There is a lot that can be said about the Mosin and may create a page just on it, but for now… this one was made in 1943 and is  7.62 x 54, I picked it up and it had all matching serial numbers which is  pretty good  considering a lot have been pieced together. There is a bayonet which is 17 inches long that is not attached for the above image. One would think because of the caliber  that it would have quite the kick, but because of its weight, almost 9 lbs, its not to bad. It is a lot of fun to shoot.  See it fired here.

SKS 762 x 39

The SKS Model Type 56The 7.62 x 39 Cartridge

The SKS fires a 7.62 x 39 round. Some say that this was the precursor to the AK47. It is a semi auto with a 5 round internal mag. Originally it had a 10 round but due to Canadian law has been permanently modified to 5 round. For a all round fun gun to fire at the range the 7.62 x 39 round can also be and has been used by many as the economy hunting rifle. With iron sites you are limited to the range that you can see clearly. ( my old eyesight says 50 yards) That 50 yards  is a great challenge anyway. I like my scoped rifles but I also really enjoy open sites for a challenge. Do not be surprised you can easily get 1/2 inch groupings.
