Yes indeed Lets try out a new scope…

The Bushnell ELITE 6500 Tactical.

I had the 4 – 16 on and was having to resort to a spotting scope for the longer ranges, ie 300 yards. Well 5 minutes behind this  and I am well pleased. At 3oo yards I can count the holes easily.

The side parallex  adjustment is so sweet compared to scopes with frount adjustment. Yes ok it is a “Second focal plane” but the price point had to come into play. Bang for the Buck !

I have to say that with this added to the Savage 10 BA it is now complete.  Ahhh wait may be a new bolt handle is in its future 🙂

“I Need a Bigger Gun”

Ok so its no surprise that Sandra wants a bigger gun, She claims the Win mag is to light and results in more flyers. Now I have to wonder , comparing my 308 results.. Does she just want a bigger gun LMAO I suppose I can not fault the logic. I have tried to explain that with any gun its a question of practice and proper technique… but the girl wants what the girl wants. Lets see what the future brings she will save her penny’s.

4/6 Ok, so I’m a Scorpion Optics fan….

I am now at 3 scopes and counting. I have been very impressed with their quality and customer service. I started with 4x16x44 the added a 4.5x14x44 Tactical.

And the just recently added another 4 X 16 X 44.

 The great thing here is the Quality vs Price point and all of these were under $300 CDN. I know that I will want to upgrade in the future for my Savage 10BA  but right now, I am tack driving. I just got off the phone with Bob at www.scorpionscopes.com and I just have to say  “Super” nice guy with excellent advise. Scorpion Optics “Sting Free” warranty gives one a piece of mind that I have yet to see in other Optic suppliers in the range. Bang for the buck can not be beat.

Check out their site and consider them, budget entry Copperhead series or step it up to the Venom series. My next scope will tap that series Im sure.

Apr 4, Sandra and I went out to the opening Saturday at the Range today. Yes it was cold but above zero….. well sort of ,  with the wind it was below zero. As die hard shooters we went and Sandra tried some new calibers to see what she will be stepping up to.

Currently her “go to” is the Savage .22 WMR. It is a great gun and a perfect starter. We want to get her into something that we can reload and that being said.. off to the range to test fire a .223, .243 and the 308.

Started her off with the Browning 243 X-Bolt. I figured it to be a good spot as it falls between the two. It is a hunter style rifle and is “Snappy” when we talk about recoil. Next she tried out the  Savage 10 BA in 308. as it is more of a target rifle with a heavy barrel, it  does not have the same kick, in fact its a bit less than the 243. This I attribute to the muzzle break and the fact that it weighs in at 16 lbs compared to the 342 at 8 pounds.

Of the first 2 she was drawn to the 308 but still not to pleased with  “kick”. I brought out the  Browning 223 X-Bolt and it looks like she has found a new friend 🙂

Look like we will be shopping later this year for her, I sense a model 10 savage in 223. More to come.

Thanks for inviting us out for a couple of hours. It was nice to see the family and to visit your range 🙂 Here’s to  future visits LOL , Maybe next time it will be warm and we can use hotdogs as targets lol

Well the week end just past with another 10-15 cm of snow hitting the ground, sighs. I just noticed that the range is set to go to summer hours April 2. No more of just being able to go on Sundays and then only if its warm enough.

The weather report say this.. and so this last Sunday of the winter hours Sandra and I should be out there. Emptying brass for reloading. Looking forward to using up the last of my factory rounds.

I think I will even go so far as to  give the 300 yard range its first try of the year for me.

Well here’s to the start of a new season.
